What is sumeru shrine?

Sumeru Shrine, also known as Sumeru Mountain or Mount Sumeru, is a popular shrine located in Osaka, Japan. The shrine is dedicated to the god of business, wealth, and fortune, and many Japanese people come here to pray for success in these areas.

The shrine is part of the Sumiyoshi Taisha complex of shrines and is situated on the grounds of the Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine. It is believed that the shrine was established in the 7th century, but the current buildings were constructed in the 18th century.

The main attraction of Sumeru Shrine is the torii gate made of stones, which is a symbol of the shrine. The gate is believed to be one of the oldest torii gates in Japan and is said to have been built in the 8th century.

Another highlight of the shrine is the sacred pond located near the torii gate. The pond is believed to be the dwelling place of the spirit of the god worshipped at the shrine. Visitors often toss coins into the pond as an offering or wish.

The shrine is open to visitors all year round, and there is no entrance fee. It is located near the Sumiyoshi Taisha-Mae Station on the Nankai Main Line.
